Some of you get Mike's stuff so apols if you have this already. Am sending it for you to watch the speech he mentioned. I have watched it and it is very comprehensive and informed. I found the delivery a bit emotional at times for my taste and I am not sure if that emotionalism might prevent some of those we need to convince from listening, nevertheless he is obviously an asset to the cause of justice for animals. A brilliant star.

Just to let you know that Countryfile are featuring Eric Ashby's work as a pioneering wildlife photographer in their programme of 14th October 2012. He is one of a number of early camera people featured and the piece will be about ten minutes long. I am pretty well sure there will be no mention of the trouble he had with the local hunt as he tried to pursue his filming commitments for the BBC. Some of you will remember how hounds running across his land on a number of occasions upset the wildlife he was trying to film and cost him money as well as causing considerable personal distress to both him and Eileen. I am also sure no mention will be made of his uncompromising anti hunt stance which no doubt affected his career in many subtle ways. I expect, like me, you view the programme series as a whole with some circumspection containing as it does that farmer who loves his animals so much he can hardly bear to eat them and who has done such harm to the cause of badgers in the culling debate. However there are some good people working on the prog. and I thought you might like to see the bit about Eric. If you don't blink you might see me as a stand in for Eileen who was unable to take part because of her ill health.

Hi Everyone, Big thanks for supporting the BBQ. It was great to see everyone. After paying for the food and the site the total profit was £289.50 which is £144.75 each for Janet's Animal Care and our NFAPG. This is a brilliant result and such a help and you know it is only spent on the rescued animals' food and vet medicine. So thanks again, hope you enjoyed yourselves despite the lack of sun. I do not have email for Marina or Pam and Sheila, could someone pass this on please.
Thanks again.xx Frankie and Ken

Fundraising dinner for the 'moon bears' buffet
I thought people who couldn't go to the above might like an account of our evening.
We were in Bournemouth for the afternoon of Sat. Aug.11th., so travelled from Southbourne to Pilley. We arrived early, followed not long after by Linda & Jimmy and Helen, then Jan. & Dave, then Louise & Zack from Salisbury where they are house-sitting. We were offered wine and soft drinks on arrival, and there was a lovely atmosphere with live music. The individual tables looked beautiful, with the Hall resembling a welcoming restaurant. The buffet was incredible - two long tables crammed with numerous savoury items and pasta and salads - and I went for a second plateful to sample everything, both plates so full each one was barely safe to carry to our table. Some people were soon defeated by the incredibly generous selection, and everyone was very impressed. (I'm tempted to hire Sally & her helpers for a family wedding-reception next year! and at the very least we shall ask her for recipes) Someone joked that surely I could mange to eat some more, and I said I was saving a space for dessert - not actually expecting any - but the next thing we knew was that the tables were being cleared to make room for various fruit-salads, brandy-snaps filled with fruit, and more substantial puddings - lots of choice.
It was marvellous value for 22.50 each. There were about 44 people there - could have accommodated a few more - and afterwards a local artist showed us slides on a big screen of her trip to the Himalayas, then gave us a demonstration of how she does sketches from the photos she takes. We won a basket of fruit in the Raffle, and bought two lovely indoor plants from Jan. & Dave. We would have liked to buy more, but the car was jam-packed with stuff from our old house to take home!! It was well after 10pm when we left for our drive back to Yeovil, back indoors on the dot of midnight, so a long day but well worth it.
A huge vote of thanks to the magnificent Sally, her wonderful helpers, and for the musical & artistic entertainment. We are hoping that the success of this year and last year will make this an annual event - so do look out for news of another evening, everyone, and be sure to try to join us next time!!!
love and peace, Rosin

Local Wildlife Rescue Needs Your Help!
Mike Meeks (former animal aid chairman - 30 years ago!) runs a wildlife rescue with his partner, Carla.
They desperately need help with transport to collect animals/birds as some people report injured animals to them but are not prepared, or not able to take them to the rescue centre.
Mike will pay petrol costs for anyone who is able to help as he sometimes has to collect 5 or 6 animals a day which takes up a lot of valuable time that he needs to look after the animals.
Carla and Mike are based in Christchurch and Ringwood.

From Frankie.
Sunday 1st July at Anderwood Car Park near Burley, New Forest.
